Windosill Review

Is this game worth £1.99 when the game is a free to play on the internet? Yes.

Do you get any added features from buying it? No..  I hear you cry! “Why waste two quid on a free game when my money could be put towards buying a nice sandwich?” Well the game is effectively art. It is something to admire, enjoy and be proud to own and show off. *Also a sandwich only lasts a few minutes whereas Windowill last around 20 minutes!*

So why is this game art? It’s simple, like its game play.

One of my favourite aspects of the game is that there is no handholding. This game comes with no instructions or any real clear aim. There aren’t enough games these days that leave it down to the player to figure out what to do. A lá “Another World” and its damn poisonous slugs!!!

Soon enough you find yourself aimlessly clicking on all the objects just to see what beautiful animations sprout from each object. Some animations are automatic and some are controlled via mouse movement. Along with these bizarre and bemusing contraptions comes some of the best audio I have heard in an indie game. Your eyes and ears demand that everything on the screen is clicked on before moving onto the next screen.

The first level can be completed in a matter of seconds. (Not that you would want to, as you would miss the magic of the game and the joy of clicking on everything on the screen.) However due to the lack of hand holding some people don’t even realise that there is more than one level because they haven’t used their logic or clicked/played around enough and genuinely think that the game is just one screen with a selection of objects to click on and play with.

I am not going to describe any of the levels or what the aim of the game is and shall leave it for you to find out yourself. However if you are seriously stuck look at the screenshot and play spot the difference. That’s all you’re getting!

I can’t explain much more without ruining it however I can guarantee that by the end of the game you will have a massive smile on your face and have a warm fuzzy feeling inside. So if you are feeling a little down in the dumps today and have half an hour to spare play Windosill and treat yourself.
